Foodbank is a national initiative started by the Trussell Trust to help people in crisis through the provision of emergency food parcels.
They are referred to their local Foodbanks by front line services such as the Job Centre, Social Services and Citizens advice.
Here at Moriah Aman we are part of the Merthyr Cynon Foodbank catchment area and though we are saddened by the desperate need of so many we are more than happy to help meet this need in our community.
During 2014 we were able to provide food for 233 local people in their time of need, this was a big increase from the 137 we fed in 2013. Notably, 47 of our clients were fed from food parcels that were given out on Christmas Eve!
At the national collection days held at Tesco in Aberdare we helped to collect 4120.40 kilos of food, and a further 2672.79 kilos from the permanent collection point in-store.
Since the opening of the Merthyr Cynon Foodbank in November 2011 a total of 10,234 people have been fed.
All foodbanks are run entirely on food donations and so every item is greatly appreciated.
